He is also the godfather of actor Steve Guttenberg. In 1983, he and Victoria opened The West End Playhouse in Van Nuys, California, where they organized, wrote, directed, and acted in several productions. The most notable was The Ladies of the Camillas, in which Bell played Ivan (the villain) and Carroll played Madame Sarah Bernhardt. As a result, it won three Drama Logue Awards. In 1988, they chose to focus more on being parents to their daughter, so they sold the threater to Edmund Gaynes and Pamela Hall. As of 2012, he's serving on the board of directors of the Screen Actors Guild in the Hollywood division.

Activism[]

Bell is not only an animal rights activist, but also an inventor. In 1991, he and fellow colleague Melanie Chartoff invented The Graywater Rotating Drain, which recycles graywater in the home. One year later, it was patented with the help of Ronald K. Ford. Following the March 30, 2012 merger of SAG and AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists), he and a few other actors sued against the current SAG President Ken Howard and several SAG vice presidents because the election was imporper. As of 2014, this matter is still awaiting a trip through the court system.
